The Hussain Sagar Lake is the most sought after locations among all age groups in Hyderabad because of its beautiful location and much needed relief it provides in the heat of summers.

Connecting the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secundrabad, the lake is situated in the heart of the city. It provides the continuum between history and contemporary as it connects the culturally disparate cities of Hyderabad and Secundrabad.

The 24 kilometers long artificial lake was built by Hazrat Husain Shah Wali on a tributary of the Musi during the time of the great builder Ibrahim Quli Qutb Shah in 1562 to meet the water and irrigation needs of the city.

Popularly known a Tank Bund it at one point of time connected the British and Nizam areas of the two cities. Today it is a complex of parks, temples, statuary, sites of entertainment and the capital’s administrative hub, enriching and at the same time ecologically damaging the environs of the shrunken.

In the middle of the lake is the 'Rock of Gibraltar', on which stands the 18-metre high and 350-tonne monolith statue of Gautam Buddha. The beautiful Necklace Road lies on one side of the lake.

Visiting the lake will mean that one gets the chance to see many more beautiful tourist locations as it is surrounded by some of the most beautiful parks and buildings in the city. It is surrounded by Lumbini parks, the aesthetically built Secretariat buildings, the NTR memorial, the Hyderabad boat club on the northern side and the Secunderabad Sailing Club, the Sanjeeviah Park and the Hazrat Saidani Ma Saheba tomb on the northern side.

From the southern side, the lower Tank Bund road is heralded by the famous and very popular Katta Maisamma temple and close to it is the sprawling green lung, the Indira Gandhi Park. A new artery known as the Necklace Road links Lumbini Park in Hyderabad with the Sanjeeviah Park in Secunderabad.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Parks & Recreation around Lake Hussain Sagar

Lumbini Park is one of the attractive leisure spots in the city in the south. The park has a floral clock, nature trail; children’s play area, and musical fountains. The boating facility which is one of the major attractions is extended to the middle of the lake. A multimedia laser show narratingHyderabad’s history is displayed through a thrilling laser display on its aqua screen on the water screen it is called Lumbini Laserium

Another park on the northern side of the Hussain Sagar lake is Sanjeevaiah park. One of the significant features of the park is it has variety of high-breed rose plants of different colours. There is also a Rock Garden, which is added attractions to the visitors.

Yogibear children’s Park attracts many children as it has a variety of Playthings like swinging bars, slides are added attractions for children. The park has a miniature Golf Tract of 19 holes, a snack bar and an event shed for conducting competitions.

Indira Park, named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is the earliest of these four parks and is situated on the eastern side. It remains favorite among the people here, as it is a common and most preferred site for shooting Telugu and Hindi films. Its large nursery provides free saplings to those who wish to have some of the plants found there. The famous and ancient temple of Katta Maisamma, close to this park, attracts lakhs of devotees every year. Adjacent to it there is skating facilities available for children.

NTR Gardens A leisure and entertainment center adjoining the Hussain Sagar Lake, the NTR Gardens houses a Memorial of Late Shri N.T. Rama Rao, former Chief Minister, with an exemplary piece of architecture

The entire Hussain Sagar complex comprising parks, statuary, recreation spots etc. was the handiwork of India’s most renowned architect Charles Correa who visualized the Buddha Poornima project with aesthetic ingredients.

Eateries near the Hussain Sagar Lake

If you are in hurry and do not want to send more time on eating the I-max complex is the best place where you can get multi-cuisine food interspersed with fast food counters saving your time without compromising on the taste of the food.

Centrally located in the heart of city, the restaurant offers excellent multi-cuisine. One can also check out the Eat Street food outlet at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road is a fun place for the entire family, to enjoy all varieties of ‘chaat’ and delicious snacks in the enchanting lakeside ambience.

Water sports

Boating and water sports are a regular feature in the Hussain sagar as it has many sailing clubs on either side. The prestigious Bhagmati and Bhageerathi luxury cruisers. New facilities like parasailing, speed boats, motor boats, 48 seater launch and much more have ad it a fun affair. Annual 'Regatta' (water competitions) draws a good number of sports persons from all around the country, making the place even more colorful.
